MODEL ADVICE
This new section when completed will deal with advice including do,s and dont,s to new models.It will also include details of model agencies/management i know personally who are 100% reputable and have many years of experience.
Do not under any circumstances pay any money up front.
Do not attend any so called castings or model scouting at hotels etc. reputable model agencies always work from their office/studio.
Do not watch tv reality model shows and imagine that this is the real world of modelling and promotion work.
Do not consider wanting to be a model unless your attitude,reliability and commitment is 110%.
Do not give up studying at school or college or give up your day job as very few models get enough work to make it full time employment.
Do not join any organisation that does not directly place models with clients but only introduce models to other model agencies.
Do not spend hundreds of pounds on model portfolios at the start of your model career.Four or five well lit,sharp images are all you need.One to be head and shoulders the others to be lifestyle type images wearing different clothes with a flat(non distracting)background.the cost of these images need not be more than £100-£200.some agencies if the shoot is done by the agency photographer will take the fee out of the first work the model does.there is no need for the old style model portfolio and Z or index cards as a majority of clients now choose a model off the agencies website.hardcopy prints can be built up as you progress with the different work you get.Models can nowdays replace index cards with cdroms holding hundreds of images and if required these can be left and distributed to prospective clients.
Do seek advice from any models that you know or any photographer working in the fashion/photographic side of the industry or any fashion designers who use models to promote their work.the good agencies are well known but as the jungle drums beat very loud in the modelling world the bad agencies are also very well known.
